OVERALL UNIVERSITY RATING
Tell us about your overall university experience so far.
It is the best thing I have ever experienced, the things Ive have the opportunity to do already are unreal and definitely make it worth the hard work. Ive met some of the greatest people, both other students who are now some of my best friends, but also professors who will spend time with their students to get to know them. I would definitely reccommed Manchester to any student looking at university this year, just come and have a look, you never know, you may love it as much as I do.
Job Prospects
How does your uni make efforts to increase your employability (careers department, work placements, transferable skills)?
Very well. They offer careers days for each undividual subject as well as offering 1-to-1 meetings to discuss fully what you want to do after your degree and the best pathway for you to go down to achieve it.
Course and Lecturers
What do you like most and least about the way your course(s) are taught?
The lectures are all very friendly and approachable. Each has their own office hours for you to speak to then should you need assisstance with anything, but they are also very willing to see you outside of those dedicated hours if you need extra help or can't make the times.
Students' Union
What do you think of your Students' Union in terms of student representation and facilities?
Accommodation
What do you think about the safety, condition, location and cost of your accommodation?
Very modern and up to date. Very spacious bedroom with ensuite. Living area is also very spacious with lots of storage. There are only 4 people to a flat which means it is very quite and perfect for doing work withiut havung ti go to the library.
Uni Facilities
How good are your university's facilities?
The facilities are fantastic. The labs for archaeology are fully equiped with everything you need to do research. Along side this there is also the museum which is part of the university and free. Many of my contact hours are spent there studying both the exibits, but also havign the opportubity to look at and hold artefacts which are on display, but also those kept in the archives. Manchester also has multiple libraries, with the main one having over 1,000,000 books available whether in hard copy or online. Each department has a library of its own with books more suited to the course materials. There is also a learning commons which is open 24/7 and filled with computers, projector areas and small private study rooms to allow for groups to go and prepare presentations. Outside of academia the sporting facitilities are brilliant, although the armitage centre can be quite difficult to live to if you live closer to campus rather than in fallowfield.
Local life
Is your university in a good location in terms of distance to accommodation and local amenities?
The city life is honestly the best. Everything is nearby whether it be shops (high street, designer or alternative) albert square, picadilly garden, deansgate and the northern quarter cater for all. Mamvhester also has a brilliant music scene being one of the most diverse and frequented by both big and small bands in the north. There are multitudes of venues for music and theatre around the city as well. Alongside this the night life is amazing, although definitely unwalkable in heels after a good night out!
Societies and Sports
How would you rate the variety of societies/sports?
If you come to manchester you can have your pick of clubs and societies, if there isnt one that caters to your interest then create your own! There are both academic and non-academic societies available for you to join as well as hundreds of sports clubs ( but be aware, some have initiations! Some of which are nicer than others..although at the end of the day its all just a laugh)
Student Support
How good is the support offered by the uni? Think both academic (tutors/feedback) and personal (counselling, etc).
As a student who got in through clearing with quite poor exam results (due to mitigating circumstances) I have been supported through the entire process. I have also recently been diagnosed with anxiety, after informing the university they have been very understanding and helpful on helping me deal with it when it triggers in lectures or in between seminars. Every student in the department is assigned a personal acadmeic advisor who is a professional in the subject and is there as a point of contact whether it be personal or academic. You will also be placed in a PASS (Peer Assissted Study Session) run by second year students who are also there to support you both personally and academically. Also, as mentioned before the staff will give up any time they have to help you if you need it.
