Tell us about your overall university experience so far.
I have thoroughly enjoyed my time at Swansea University, and will be extremely sad to leave after I complete my masters course. As a very anxious and shy person, Swansea has more than accommodated me and any extra needs that I might have, whilst also maintaining a fantastic community environment that I have been able to make a fantastic group of friends through. I honestly believe that had it not been for the fantastic lecturers and modules available here, I would not be continuing my educational career, and may even be struggling to find direction for my future career. I have no doubt, however, that thanks to Swansea I shall be fully prepared for the working world upon my graduation.
Facilities
How good are your university's facilities?
Facilities are excellent, with a range of coffee shop/cafes and hot food canteens. General convenience shops are also available to all students.
Student support
How good is the support offered by the uni? Think both academic (tutors/feedback) and personal (counselling, etc).
I honestly cannot fault the support available to students through the University, there is always someone available to help with anything regarding student wellbeing, as well as students from all courses being particularly welcoming to any and all students.
Students' union
What do you think of your Students' Union in terms of student representation and facilities?
The Student Union has always been very friendly and helpful with regards to any issues of student welfare and societies. I personally am not overly involved due to outside working commitments.
Local life
Is your university in a good location in terms of distance to accommodation and local amenities?
Swansea is a very vibrant city, that has a fantastic balance between the student environment and local colour.
Societies and Sports
How would you rate the variety of societies/sports?
From personal experience, all societies and sports clubs are very welcoming to students of all levels of experience.
Lecturers and teaching quality
What do you like most and least about the way your course(s) are taught?
The course itself is very interesting, and the variety of modules means that you're never stuck learning the same thing over and over again (unless you want to of course). The lecturers themselves are extremely accommodating, available at any time to answer e-mails, general questions about the courses themselves, or even more focused queries regarding assignments and exams.
Career prospects
How does your uni make efforts to increase your employability (careers department, work placements, transferable skills)?
I am currently looking to complete a Masters degree, which the University has prepared me for brilliantly, providing relevant and required information when needed, but also being on hand to answer any questions I have on the matter. With regards to finding a job, the careers advice service is brilliant, offering work experience in specialised fields as well as a variety of lectures, workshops and online tools to improve my job prospects post-graduation.
University halls
What do you think about the safety, condition, location and cost of your accommodation?
For a student house, and I know a lot can be in pretty bad condition, my private accommodation is well maintained and modern, which makes it a lot easier to create that 'home away from home' feeling.
