What does a rail and rolling stock builder or repairer do?

In this role you’ll be part of a team that works to keep rail vehicles and train tracks in good repair. Typically employed by an engineering company, you could work on a range of machinery including train engines, carriages, control panels, brakes and couplings. You might carry out your duties in a rail workshop, depot or along railway lines around the country.

You’ll work closely with other engineers and technicians to complete tasks such as assessing and repairing train locomotives, fitting, assembling, testing and adjusting rolling stock parts, and maintaining signalling equipment or railway lines.
