What qualifications do you need to be a garage manager or proprietor?

You don’t always need a degree to work in this field, but a qualification in one of the following subjects might be useful:

Do you need work experience to be a garage manager or proprietor?

You’ll need a good understanding of motor vehicles to manage a garage facility, so experience working on and repairing cars will go a long way when applying for your first job. To get early experience you might shadow a mechanic for the day, get a summer job in a garage, or through a placement during your studies. An enthusiasm for the motor industry and knowledge of different car models will be helpful.

Experience in business management or admin will also be useful, even if it’s in a different industry.
