As well as a broad knowledge of how motor vehicles work and are repaired, you’ll need strong business management and leadership skills.
You’ll need a good understanding of motor vehicles to manage a garage facility, so experience working on and repairing cars will go a long way when applying for your first job. To get early experience you might shadow a mechanic for the day, get a summer job in a garage, or through a placement during your studies. An enthusiasm for the motor industry and knowledge of different car models will be helpful.
Experience in business management or admin will also be useful, even if it’s in a different industry.
