As a pharmaceutical technician, you’ll be a key part of the pharmacy team, helping patients get the most from their medicines. Find out where you could be working in this role and what tasks you might be doing day to day.
Career progression will depend on the type of pharmacy you work at. As you gain experience, you could be promoted to a department supervisor or manager. Or, you might apply to a different company for a more specialist role, for example in paediatrics, clinical trials or as a technician working with patients on wards.
Your experience as a pharmaceutical technician will be beneficial if you decide to do further study. For example, you could train as a pharmacist, or go into research and development work.
Lots of your skills development will be done on the job. You’ll learn from pharmacists and colleagues about different medicines, treatments and other healthcare advice you’ll then give to customers.
A professional organisation you could join is the Association of Pharmacy Technicians UK (APTUK). Through the APTUK you can get access to networking, career development opportunities and other relevant resources.
