How will your chartered architectural technologist career progress?

Once you’ve worked on several projects, you’ll have more options to progress in your career. However, it can depend on the size of the company and the type of work you’re doing.

Your first year in the job will involve hard work and dedication to demonstrate your skills and potential. If you prove your abilities, you could be promoted to a manager role. After a few years in this position, you might be able to work as a consultant.

After many years in the industry, you could even become self-employed and start your own practice.

What opportunities are there for career development?

Once you have at least two years experience, you can start working towards Chartered Membership at the Chartered Institute of Architectural Technologists (CIAT). This will be the most important step in your career.

To be accepted, you must have a CIAT-accredited honours degree (or equivalent) in architectural technology or an equivalent honours degree in the built environment.

Your employer may also offer training, networking events or courses to boost your career.
