The campus is situated close to the centre of Manchester (about twenty minute walk) and offers excellent public transport links with a train station directly next to the campus and trains running regularly into the centre of Manchester (journey time about 5 minutes). Peel Park is also next to the campus, besides the River Irwell, which looks beautiful during the summer and is a great place to relax with friends or go for long walks to clear you mind. The Art Gallery cafe does delicious fresh food in a very pleasant setting and the staff are very friendly. Can't forget the Old Fire Station serves really nice coffee and pastries. The SU bar also has a good variety of beers to suit your taste. The university library offers an extensive range of books over three floors and is also a great place to sit and do some studying. One problem is on campus parking. If you drive to university, you may struggle to find a parking space which is stressful and may make you late for lectures. It is therefore advisable that you make use of the excellent public transport links if possible. There's also a hideous statue of Engels outside the the library, which looks as if a meteorite has just crashed onto the campus.

The Civil Engineering course at Salford is very good. It is well tailored to anyone who wants to pursue a career in the industry. Many of the lecturers have links with the industry which provides them with unique and useful insight about how to deliver their course in a relevant and accessible way. The Geotechnics, Soil Mechanics, Fluid Mechanics and Water Resources courses are taught to a high standard and are very interesting. The lectures are all delivered in person. Some modules offer flip-learning where you prepare for the lecture in advance which I found really helpful because it enables you to get the most out of your lectures. All the material is uploaded on to Blackboard which is a great aid when writing up notes and revising for exams. I find the lecturers are friendly and usually respond to emails. However, I think the best way to discuss something with your lecturer is to raise it during the lecture (other people will likely benefit from your question), or raise it with them immediately after the lecture has finished whilst they're still in the room. The Civil Engineering course also has a five day field trip down to Constructionarium in Norfolk which is an excellent, hands-on experience of a real construction site where you'll building formwork, assemble rebar cages and mix and pour concrete. It's also a fun team bonding experience and the food is delicious.

University of Salford gives ample support to the students, the tutors are friendly and supportive. I wish my course would have chance for industrial placement.
