Studying at the University of Portsmouth feels like being part of a welcoming community where you’re encouraged to grow both academically and personally. The city itself adds to the experience—it’s vibrant, full of history, and right by the sea, which makes student life feel unique and refreshing. The university offers strong support services, from wellbeing to career guidance, and there’s always something happening, whether it’s societies, sports, or events that bring people together. What makes it such a great place to study is the balance between academic quality and a genuinely supportive environment that helps students feel at home. If there’s one area that could be improved, it would be expanding more study spaces and making timetabling a bit smoother, so students can make the most of everything the university has to offer without feeling stretched.

The best part of my course is how engaging and practical it feels—lecturers bring real-world examples into lessons, and there are plenty of opportunities to apply what we learn through projects and group work. It makes studying feel relevant and motivating. On the flip side, the toughest aspect is sometimes the workload and scheduling; deadlines can bunch up, and it can feel overwhelming when assignments overlap. Overall though, the balance of supportive teaching and useful skills makes the course rewarding, even if the organization could be a bit smoother.

What I like most about the uni’s halls is how easy they make it to meet people and feel part of the student community—living close to campus with everything you need nearby is a huge plus. The least enjoyable part is that the rooms can feel a bit small and the cost adds up quickly, especially compared to private rentals. Overall though, the halls are a great way to settle into uni life and make friends fast.
