Obviously my experience this year has been drastically affected by COVID-19. Despite this I’ve still had a decent time and think the learning and content has been adapted adequately.

Nottingham is a lovely place to study. The campus is gorgeous, students and staff are friendly and the student support services available are great. However, I’d say that access to the university counselling service must be improved upon. It’s quite unfair that students can’t avail the service without a referral and I think this should definitely change. Also, in my course (Medicine), we’re barely given access to past papers unlike other courses which I’d love for to change.

I personally like the way my course is structured. Biochemistry in the first year I wasn’t a fan of but very early on the course incorporates clinical aspects which I think is quite nice. My personal tutor and the medical school’s senior tutors are all very understanding and approachable. The only downside I’d say is that I wish there was a little more structure in the curriculum so that students are able to distinguish between what is and isn’t necessary to study and that more past exam or revision papers were provided.

While staying in halls was nice to make friends in first year and you got meals in the dining hall, overall I don’t think I’d fully recommend it to an incoming student. The food in the hall I stayed in during my first year was a absolutely abysmal! I would’ve been a lot better off cooking for myself and living in a flat. My friends and I tried complaining about it several times, but we were never taken seriously.
