The uni has great sports facilities and is a beautiful campus. I have really enjoyed my time at UON

Teaching and content is really great however due to Covid the uni didn't encourage placement work

I had a great time in halls, the food isn't great but you get use to it very quickly and weekend brunches are amazing. We have a small kitchen to make lunches in and it got cleaned daily

University Park Campus is self-contained and the green spaces make it a lovely place to walk to places on the campus to study and socialise - I really enjoy going for walks around Highfield Lake. The student academic support team are amazing, they provide sessions for a variety of topics to help develop skills and support your studies. The student union have many things that you can get involved in, for example, becoming a course representative (a liaison between the union and academic staff) or attending events they host at the student bar and social areas. To improve, the first few weeks were quite isolating for me as I came to this university not knowing anyone, so perhaps events could be held that connect students doing the same course would be helpful, especially if you're nervous about meeting people with similar interests.

The course is taught entirely in person, so you have opportunities to talk to lecturers and seminar tutors about what you have learned. Some of my classes are small, and I enjoy that because it feels more relaxed and less stressful to speak up and ask questions compared to the larger groups, where it can feel quite intimidating. I have around 16 contact hours a week of lectures and complimentary seminars. The staff are often very happy to answer questions or address things that you are struggling with, but you have to go to them as they do not know how to support you with things they are unaware you are struggling with. I'm studying beginners German and it is interesting to see how much I have learnt and developed my knowledge and understanding of the language in a semester. I also like the way, the modules I picked for history feed into my language modules as they cover diverse topics that are not restricted to a Eurocentric worldview and focus.
