I was critical of the uni when I first started studying, it’s website seemed clumsy and there were a few I.T errors that was frustrating to say the least! But after I settled into the rhythm of ULaw, it’s actually been a pleasurable experience learning. It has the option to study online (which is what I do) which was essential, the tutors are brilliantly knowledgeable and helpful if you need them, but hands off you if don’t. You’re treated like a trainee lawyer which was a new experience for me going from very much being a student at Open Uni (where I got my law degree) and in particular there is one tutor who is fantastic at explaining the modules to you in a way that makes you feel on his level, and if you knew how educated and experienced he is, that is quite a privileged feeling! The worst aspect of the uni is probably it’s online system, it’s okay, but not amazing. It certainly feels clunkier than Open Uni’s website and it feels as though you’re opening folder after folder just to try and find a document that could have been easily marked out. That being said, once you get used to it it’s easy to navigate, and the materials sent through the post are perfect and almost negate the need to use the website as much. The books are brilliant, and combined with the feedback videos provided in each unit by a tutor they are definitely the best part of the uni. It’s a really interesting and engaging way to learn, which makes the weekly tasks enjoyable and really hands on.

My course is taught online, which is fantastic. The only drawback is that exams are in person, which isn’t ideal for everyone who took an online course because online is better suited to their needs. But where needed they can be sat online, and the only facility for taking an exam is just perfect, I can’t fault the process. All materials are sent in the post prior to the course, and are really really helpful, full of detail but easy to learn at the same time. The tutors just exude knowledge and experience, and they don’t just teach the module they pass their experiences on about actually being a lawyer, and some of the advice they’ve given has been invaluable in that it’s helped with understanding the topic, but also understanding the career path I’ve chosen. The module choices are really interesting as well with a great deal of flexibility and a hands on approach that enhances learning. It’s quite intense studying full time, and whilst I started out also working part time I had to give that up to really focus on uni, you can’t do both justice. The lectures are mostly recorded so can be accessed afterwards which is helpful when you can’t attend them live. There are so many great things about ULaw, just give it time to settle in to a new way of learning and be prepared to dedicate your time to the course, it’ll be worth it!

Amazing university, very inclusive and well taught modules. However, as I am one of part time students, we get excluded from the majority of events and support on campus as we study on the weekends. I can’t really complain as it was my choice to work full time and study on the weekends studies but for the future students, it would be nice for Uni to organise some events etc on weekend to accommodate all students.
