Better mental health services

The lectures are great because they give lots of information but sometimes not all information is relevant to the essay topics, and sometimes this is unbalanced as we are given so much information about one topic, then very little on another and yet we are expected to write an essay with regards to this. An example of this would be the week we spent covering women in contemporary art, an already understudied area, versus the questions given for the essay being about areas only covered in one lecture. I understand they want us to be independent with our research and how we use this in our essay to build an argument, but there are a few discrepancies similar to this that are quite frustrating. Furthermore there is a lack of guidance for essays which are worth 50% of the overall grade, and we are rarely given examples of successful essays as a springboard for improving our essays. In terms of art practice, I thought I was coming to university to improve my skills however this is an area that is of no interest to the teaching staff. Understandably there is a push for development in terms of process however I have found there have been no extra curricular classes such as life drawing or opportunities to experiment outside of the class setting with others and I feel this would be something that would benefit the students greatly. There’s a lack of overall organisation from the teaching staff in art practice as well, and I’ve become disappointed with lectures for art practice as the lecturers often have different dates for deadlines on PowerPoints or written down as opposed to what’s on the assessment page online. I came to uni expecting to enjoy the art practice side of the degree so much work but sadly I find this is not the case.
