Hillhead feels far away

I love the university itself, some lectures are truly interesting. Once essays began it's been really lonely as everyone's busy with work and I haven't had the chance to get close with anyone so a lot of potential friends parted. The lack of intimacy has impacted by studies and it's a prominent struggle. An educational improvement I wish to see is more discussions or revision clubs or some of sort surrounding a topic. Sometimes I'm really interested and want to creatively explore ideas more in groups but since it's not often an option, my curiosity and excitement die off. A lack of community, especially in first year, It's not the same joining a society for the subject, they don't discuss material. I want to be apart of an ambitious academic group, I've tried volunteering for lecturers research and it hasn't happened, it's making me lack motivation. I'm here to be excited about work but rarely anyone around me is and it's making me become the same; plain. I feel a lot of students are just doing work for the sake of getting it done, I want to talk and explore, search applications and new possibilities, it's so hard to do alone.

The hours are good, although there are too many online courses for my liking. I enjoy the innovative lectures including flipped learning and more practical learning during class. I wish lectures were more like that, encouraging discussions and original ideas from bright young individuals, we're all in a hall together and aren't putting the power of collective minds to use.
