Queens is a good place to study as it’s in such a lovely location, the facilities are modern and comfortable. However, in particular relation to law I feel that the lecturers can often be stand offish and dismissive towards students. Whilst uni is meant to be a more independent experience I do not think lecturers should expect for us to know everything.

Our course was taught online in first and second year, now in my final year it is all in person and I’ve never experienced it before. Trying to do assignments in a very different way than before- when all lectures were available at any time. It’s led to a lot of stress and feeling just as lost as first year trying to find my feet. The course also has significant less hours than anyone else I know and contact with lecturers is limited. Often lectures will be out of office for days at a time leaving us with no alternatives. The school also do not help with securing placements or experience, the interviews for law firms can be very difficult and we are offered no training or help.

I loved my time in Elms, it really is the perfect place for first year students. The only thing I would say I that I was put into a flat with 4 other girls from my school when I didn’t not request to live with anyone in particular, whilst this worked out fine in my situation, in cases of high school bullying it would maybe be best not to have so many people from the same school in one flat.

The consultation hours to visit your tutors are very useful. More support in the first few weeks would be helpful to make the transition to university easier and to make sure that you are happy with your course. The student union is a great facility and the bar has good food and drinks which are cheaper than most other places. However, the prices in the cafes on campus are not very student-friendly.

The course is taught in-class which is the best option for a language degree but I think it would be helpful if some of the lectures were available online or recorded for future reference. The grammar classes for post-A-level are very basic and cover mostly GCSE and AS content in the first semester. Most students do not find this useful and revision should be condensed.

Laundry is quite expensive and this is a problem for international and GB students who cannot go home. There are problems with noise in the accommodation and although there is an anonymous noise complaint system it often does not solve the problem. The accommodation is in a beautiful location and the rooms have good storage.
