LIBF focuses on modern research in finance and from day one encourages students to think about their future. The careers team is amazing and students are always able to seek help for applications, and attend networking events The university has a professional environment and a focus on studies. This somewhat comes at a cost of the social aspect. Many of the societies are set up around finance and although this is perfect for the course, it restricts the amount of socialising amongst peers in a relaxed environment. However, this has been through times of Covid restrictions, and since there have been huge improvements in this area thanks to a new support team. Due to the smaller size of the university it is easy and encouraged to speak out, share opinions and suggest changes to be made. The uni is supportive of any societies or extra curricular activities you may want to start and are happy to provide resources to help you develop them. It can be a matter of taking responsibility for any events/societies you would like to be involved with, and creating them yourself. Overall, I have really enjoyed my time thus far and felt like I have been given a great depth of knowledge to be fully prepared for a career in finance.

The best aspect has to be the education including the modules that we learn as well as extra education available including Bloomberg certificates, Coursera and CFA to name a few. Everything is super relevant and allow students to really get ahead of the game. I love the support from the careers team, provide great support and networking events. Also, many of the lecturers have a wealth of knowledge, and I'd like to mention Lecturer B and C as their passion and energy is contagious, and are willing to go above and beyond to help students. The worst aspect will have to be the social aspect. It's tough having so few students as it's unlikely to find many people with similar interests. It's hard not to be slightly envious of the plethora of sports and activities taking place in larger universities. Although, the uni tries hard to support students to set up societies, it can be hard to get a group tougher regularly.

My overall experience of the university has been excellent because, I came out of my first year with a 2:1 and this has helped me improve in many ways, for example, it's helped me figure out the best way for me to maximise my revision and maximise my time management so that I can have my max capacity utilisation of the resources at university so that I can achieve the best grades available. additionally, in the first year of my university experience, I met a lot of great people who have helped improve the moral and my experience in the university because the area is a much more fun place when you can revise and have a laugh with people who have the same interests and aspirations as you, so the university has brought together a lot of great people who will all be greatly benefitted by the time in this university.

The facilities are really good and ever improving

Academically the support is great because the in house hours of the lecturers are clearly stated so that everyone knows when the lecturers are available to answer questions/give feedback, which is good because it means it makes it better for me to plan my day to take into consideration some questions which I may have in regards to my course and any work I have completed in the previous week. also, the lecturers are available most times in the day via email and are swift in their responses so that even if you're not able to access the tutor in person and contact them in their office hours at the uni, it then means that you don't have to wait a week to get feedback on any questions/work that you may have. Personally (counselling) I haven't had any experience with this part of the university first hand, but I have heard positive feedback from other university students who have needed extra help with counselling for example or for just extra help. for example one student has counselling 1 or 2 times a week in which they have an hour session where they talk about not just what's going on at uni, but what is happening at home and social life too.

in terms of distance yes, it's a 40-minute journey from my accommodation so it is not too far, but it can become costly for travel each week. however, it is beneficial if you want to explore central London because they're in the middle of central London.

What I like most is the ability to learn a new module/topic that I am invested in each semester, I like this because it means that I am able to further my knowledge in the field that I love and want to go into when I am older. what I like least about the way it is taught is the timetable, this is because I get caught coming in and out on the peak times for the tube journeys a lot which not only means I have to pay more I also means that i am on a busy tube after a full day.

My uni has a system in which they send weekly if not more often than that emails about jobs which are available in the local area and are targeted towards what we're learning within our study and what we're interested in. additionally, in my first year of uni, we completed a module called "Personal Development & Employability" which was a module set out to improve our employability and helped improve and better our chances of getting employed, for example, they had a task to create a CV and a Cover Letter. this was useful because not only did the lecturer show where I could improve and be seen more employable, they also helped me get a CV which will maximise my chances of employability after i complete my time at this university.
