Heriot-Watt is a global campus, so you have a chance to meet a lot of different people from different parts of the world. The campus is also very spacious and beautiful, and there are many spaces for students to study, whether alone or cooperatively with other students. However, there is a lack of support for international students or students who transfer onto the campus here in Edinburgh. There was a lot of support when coming into the country, but once we were here, it felt like nothing was done to check in or make sure that students weren't struggling to adjust.

To preface, it is quite obvious that Heriot-Watt's focus is more geared toward STEM subjects, specifically engineering, and in the social sciences, business. My course, psychology, could do with more industry placements or internship opportunities that aren't just observership or volunteering for free. Naturally, there are internships held at the university, but the opportunities are few in between compared to the many students in all different years. Last year there were only two summer internships offered to the whole of third and fourth year. However, while it lacks in this, I find that all my professors have been a joy to work with. Each professor has their own niche and come from a research background and the classes they teach are, more often than not, related if not directly the niche they research. This makes the psychology professors very knowledgeable and able to answer the questions that students come up with in class. It also makes for a fun class as we can debate with the professors.

What I liked the most was that it really wasn't far away from university grounds, so it was easy to get to class and go to the library, etc. However, they would restrict heating in the winter. They would turn off the heating very late at night or in the middle of the day, which is very unfair and makes for an uncomfortable experience. I understand having to let the heaters rest because they're older. But turning them off in the dead of night when students are trying to sleep with comfort and warmth? That is not right.
