1. Researching universities and maths courses
Although the Clearing process is competitive (it’s done on a first come, first served basis), it’s important not to rush blindly into a decision without doing the proper research. Use Whatuni’s Clearing search bar to find which universities have spaces available for maths, and then read through some of our student reviews to see which places you like the look of. That way you can compile a shortlist of the courses you think would suit you best.
Creating a shortlist is a great thing to do ahead of results day if possible, as it means on results day you can get straight down to step 2...
2. Preparing to make calls
Once you’ve made a shortlist of the universities you’d most like to go to, it’s time to pick up the phone and starting making calls. Make sure you have all the information you need to hand and you're ready to answer questions like "so why do you want to study maths at our university?"
3. Securing a place
You’re almost there. Once you start phoning people, don’t forget to sell yourself and sound as enthusiastic as possible. Keep at it, and hopefully before long you’ll have a couple of possibilities lined up. Then you can start looking in to accommodation and taking care of the little things such as changing your student finance details before the course starts. Good luck!
