Here’s what you should be thinking about before accepting a clearing offer.
The course you may be offered may differ slightly from what you originally wanted. The modules might be different, the method of grading may be different, heck even the subject might be different.
Before you say yes to a university, make sure you actually like the course they’re offering. You don’t want to spend 3 years only to come out with a degree that doesn’t match the career you want and was taught in a way you didn’t enjoy.
Want to study in a big city? Then it’s ok to not call universities in the countryside. Want to study near the outdoors and greenery? Then don’t feel bad about not calling city based universities.
Being in the right location for you can make a huge difference to your happiness at university, so don’t be afraid to give universities in places you aren’t keen on a miss.
Some universities are better than others in terms of ranking for particular subjects and overall experience. Make sure that the university you’re talking to is
well ranked for the subject you want to study, otherwise you may find yourself being disappointed when you start the course.
It’s always worth checking out what past and present students say about the university before accepting something from clearing.
Our Whatuni reviews will give you an idea what the students REALLY think about their universities, and what they love and loathe about it.
If nothing comes up during clearing that interests you, don’t worry. Take a gap year, go travelling, get work experience, study for other qualifications, do whatever makes you happy. Remember, this isn’t the end of the road for you, it’s just the start, and you can still reapply next year.
