If you’re reading this, we can only guess it’s because you’re right at the very beginning of the epic quest that is choosing a university. Maybe you have an idea of the type of place you’d like to go to study, or maybe you don’t; maybe you know what you want to do when you get there, or maybe you haven’t got the slightest clue.

Either way, we can help...

Starting your uni research

If you don’t know how to go about picking a course or choosing a university (or if you’re stuck on both fronts), you should start with the following guides:

- How do you actually pick a degree subject?

- How to choose the right university

Alternatively, you can spend a bit of time finding out more about different courses by having a read through our degree subject guides. They’ve got info on everything from the A-levels you’ll need in order to do a certain subject at uni to the type of jobs you can expect to go into after you’ve (eventually) graduated. At the moment we have about 70 subject guides covering everything from engineering to music.

Once you have an idea of what you're looking for

So, you've got an idea of the subject you want to study and what you want from a university. Now it's time to start searching for courses and shortlisting them. We've got over 60,000 courses listed on Whatuni, and our filters mean you can narrow down the types of courses and unis that we suggest for you. Once you've found something you like, hit the heart and add it to your favourites!

After you found some courses you like

There's so much choice out there, we're sure you'll find several courses to add to your favourites, so how do you narrow that down? Well, by ordering prospectuses, reading more about the course on the university's website or by booking an open day to visit the university of course! These things will help you get answers to your questions, and will probably answer some questions you didn't even know you had. Luckily, you can easily order prospectuses and book open days on Whatuni as well. It's almost like we've got everything you need for your uni research...

Research done, what next?

Hopefully your research has helped you narrow down your options and you've got a shortlist of courses to actually apply to. Now is when it gets real... it's time to start writing your application! After applying and getting your offers, you might want to do some more research and visit unis again to make your final decision about which offer to accept. And then, that's your uni research done! All that's left is to get those grades and get packing, so what are you waiting for?

Good luck with your search!
