1994 Group of Universities

There were 19 institutions in the group, all of which are devoted to high quality teaching and research.

Entry requirements are always high for these universities, and competition for places can be fierce, but if you’re expecting mainly A*s and As, you might well be eligible to study at one of these stellar universities.

The members of the 1994 group were:

Institute of Education, University of London
Royal Holloway, University of London
Lancaster University
University of Leicester
Loughborough University
University of Manchester Institute of Science and Technology
Queen Mary, University of London
University of Reading
University of St Andrews
School of Oriental and African Studies
University of Surrey
University of Sussex
University of Warwick
University of York

However, after 19 years together, the 1994 Group dissolved in November 2013. About it's departure from the education sector, the 1994 Group said:

"The Group was founded at a time of real change within the sector and so it comes to end at another point of significant change. Collectively, we have taken the decision to bring the 1994 Group to an end, because as institutions we have expanded and changed over time to the point where the need for the Group as originally constituted no longer exists."
