So, if you’re still feeling uncertain and you’re struggling to make a decision on whether or not to study multiplatform media production, you’ve come to the right place.
We spoke to Mike Pinchin, lecturer for the University of Sunderland’s BA (hons) Multiplatform Media Production Degree, to see what exactly the course involves…
During the course we study the very latest technology, combined with more traditional multi-media expertise. We cover a wide range of subject areas such as documentary-making, film-making, and TV production and equip students with the skills the industry is demanding to make graduates more employable.
Alongside having a strong reputation for teaching more traditional skills, we look at developing multi-media knowledge, such as app building, game development and web development skills.
We have some terrific facilities here at the University of Sunderland and students will find themselves using kit and equipment that would be the envy of many new media companies. We have access to some great TV studios, a green screen, a first-class cinema and audio studios. The University is also AVID certified, which is an attractive plus point for many students. I also think students would be interested in the number of awards we’ve won here – one of our new media students won the RTS Award for best student documentary – regionally and nationally.
What we look for is a passion – if not an obsession – with new media and digital media technology.
We’ve found our graduates have a lot to offer employers, so they find their way into a range of different jobs and organisations. We have graduates working at the BBC and Sky, while other graduates have set up their own successful new media companies.
There are also quite a lot of graduates who have found their way into education, passing on the skills they’ve learnt at the University of Sunderland.
