Six best dances of all time

According to Martha Graham, “dance is the hidden language of the soul.” Now we’re not entirely sure if this is true, but there’s no denying that everyone loves to strut their stuff once in a while.

While we can’t promise you’ll be the next Justin Timberlake, if you can master some of these moves then NOTHING will hold you back once you get on the dance floor...

1) The Moonwalk

The legendary Michael Jackson was the innovator of many a new dance move, but the Moonwalk is currently his most famous. The Moonwalk creates the illusion of the dancer attempting to walk forwards while travelling backwards and to date is one of the most famous dances in the world.

Of course when done well, the Moonwalk looks phenomenal, but this is perhaps one move amateurs should avoid attempting in public!

2) The Macarena

It has been scientifically proven that you can Macarena to any given song (go on... give it a try). Famous for being played at weddings and cheesy 1990s clubs, with its simple moves The Macarena can bring even the most reluctant of dancers on to the floor.

Sang by Spanish duo Los Del Rio, the Macarena was voted VH1’s Greatest One Hit Wonder of all time, and still to this day has an almost cult-like following.

3) Single Ladies

There’s no denying that Queen B can move. You saw her perform at the super-bowl, right? Despite her phenomenal dancing skills, though, the Queen of Pop has somehow given us one of the most simple (but awesome) dance routines of all time.

It doesn’t matter whether you’re as graceful as a swan or as clumsy as an elephant, it is pretty much impossible to get the Single Ladies dance wrong – no matter how hard you try.

4) The Twist

The Twist was a defining dance move of the 1960s. Inspired by early rock ‘n’ roll, the twist emerged as a craze following the release of Chubby Checker's No.1 hit of the same name.

Since then, the Twist has been the starting point for a whole host of 1960s dance moves (still in use today), including the legendary ‘mashed potato.’

5) The Hammer Dance

Now we’re not entirely which is funnier, the MC Hammer dance, or his ridiculous outfit in the music video. Either way, this has been one popular move amongst non-serious dancers since the mid 1990s.

The beauty of the Hammer Dance is that it is so gloriously bad. When throwing  these shapes on the dance floor, people know you’re SUPPOSED to be looking like an idiot. If you’re a bad dancer, or a nervous one, then this is pretty much the perfect routine for you!

6) Gangnam Style

We couldn’t mention popular dances without mentioning Gangnam Style, the latest craze to sweep the nation. Comprising of some pretty peculiar choreography (including one step where you gallop like a horse) this is a dance that even your dad could manage.
