The Girl Who Took a Mattress to The Library
Exams and tight essay deadline can stress out even the most organised and studious person at university, and it’s not unusual for students to lose a few hours’ sleep under the stress, the pressure and the copious amounts of red bull in their system.
But one student from The
Texas State University decided that studying wasn’t going to cost her 40 winks, and took in an actual blow-up mattress, complete with blankets, into the university’s library.
Unsurprisingly, she was snapchatted by her fellow students…
The Guy Who Quoted the Black-Eyed Peas for More Marks
When Deondre from
Kansas City realised he needed a few more marks to get an A grade, he knew he had to ask his lecturer for extra credit…extra credit the lecturer had specifically said never to ask for.
So, he decided to channel his inner musician, and nick the chorus of the classic Black Eyed Peas tune “Where Is The Love”. Yes, this really happened.
Deondre concluded this bonkers email with
“With all the bad going on in the world, you have the opportunity to brighten up your student’s lives by offering extra credit. Can you find it in your heart? Where’s the love?”
And unbelievably, this actually worked! He even got extra credit for the rest of his class! Either the lecturer had an amazing sense of humour or was a secret Will.i.am fan...
The Students Who Voted a Cat as Their President
University of Southampton's students are in our legends book after they let their feline friend become a member of their SU.
Susu is a stray cat that’s well known around the Southampton campus, as she’s made frequent visits there for many years. Because she’s so well known and loved by students and lecturers, the university decided to make her their honorary president.
Suppose it seems right, Susu would know the best places for walks, the best places for food and the best places for a nap.
The Guy Who Wanted to Meet People with The Same Name
You know the amazing feeling you get when you meet someone with the same name as you? Well, this guy took that to the extremes.
University of York student Tim decided to make his third year Writing, Directing and Performance project all about his own name. He went on a quest to meet other Tims, in order to create a one-man play about ‘nominative determinism’, which is a concept that believes a name can determine someone’s personality, their interests, jobs etc.
He even created a hashtag, #GoingOnATimHunt
Never has social media been used for such an awesome thing before. Apart from #BoatyMcBoatface obviously.
The Girls Who Redecorated Their Room
Believe it or not, these girls are sitting in their university bedroom. We know it doesn’t look like one, there’s no pin board covered in years’ worth of pins, a small desk or a single bed with an average looking mattress that’s seen better days.
Abby and Lindy from
The University of Mississippi redecorated their entire bedroom so now they’ve got plush quilted gold headboards, fluffy rugs, velvet stools, gold curtains, and the icing on the cake, an inbuilt microwave into their shared dressing table.
And what’s even better is that it didn’t cost them as much as you’d think it would, as most of the furnishings were either homemade or purchased from high street and discount shops.
Whoever moves into their room after them is going to be incredibly lucky.
The Guy Who Took a Cardboard Dog to Uni
Ok, so technically this is more a legendary mum of a student, but it still counts!
When you go to university you’re bound to pack things that remind you of your home comforts. Whether it’s the duvet cover you’d had since you were 10 or a million photos of your family and friends that cost half your tuition fees to print out, it all helps when homesickness hits.
When Jake went off to university, he was incredibly sad to be leaving Jesse the dog behind. So, to make sure Jake didn’t get too homesick or lonely, his mum went out and got a life-sized cardboard cut-out of Jesse made.
Best room-mate ever.
The Girls Who Really Wanted A Night Out
We’ve all been there. You want to go out to a party but your folks say no. Then you sulk, go to your room and get really bad FOMO.
Well, these girls decided to avoid their dose of FOMO and do a classic sneak out. But they didn’t just open a window or walk quietly down the stairs, oh no, these girls actually cut their own hair so it looked like they were sleeping soundly in bed.
Unbelievably the plan worked and they returned home at 4am.
Note: We do not condone this. Don’t be cutting your hair and then billing us for the hairdresser’s bill to sort it out.
The Guy Who Couldn’t Resist Winding His Mum Up
When your parents ask you to do a chore, no matter how simple, it can be really frustrating. And it can be especially annoying if when you do the chore as they’ve requested, and it’s still not good enough.
That’s the situation that
University of Aberdeen student Jason found himself in when his mother asked him to hang out one of his white shirts. To be fair, there was no instruction on the shirt about hanging that up, so we can’t see that he actually did anything wrong...
We think Jason’s mum either is more specific with her chore requests or just doesn’t bother asking him anymore…
The Girl Who Handled Rejection Well
When Claudia was rejected from
Oxford University she decided that rather than cry, shout, scream or sulk, she was going to turn it into a piece of artwork instead. She now attends Durham University, where we hope she still has this rejection masterpiece framed.
Never has the word “no” looked so awesome.
The Guy Who Stole His Dog To Go To University
When you go to university it can be really difficult saying goodbye to friends and family, but it’s even harder to wave a temporary farewell to your beloved pets.
Which is why when student Sean went off to university, he decided to steal the family dog and take him with him.
Safe to say, Sean’s parents weren’t best pleased and demanded he turn the car around and return the dog, which he sadly did. Sean says, ““They were worried that I wouldn’t be able to take care of him but I brought a tub of his food and his favourite toys,” he said. “He was in for a fun week but it got shut down.”
And 3 Not So Legendary Students…
The Guy Who Bet On Brexit
Many people didn’t see Brexit coming, and one of those people was Peter, an economics student from
University of Strathclyde. He bet his student loan on the referendum result being remain. How much of his student loan I hear you ask? ALL OF IT. YES. ALL OF IT. THE FULL £2,000.
If we’d remained in the EU, Peter would have won £286. But due to the result he probably had to make some very horrible phone calls to his folks just so he could afford some bread and pot noodles.
The Demanding Housemate No One Had Even Met
Moving in with a bunch of strangers as a fresher can seem like one of the scariest things when you’re packing up and heading to your new uni home. So, common sense would suggest that when you first turn up, you’re as nice as you can possibly be in order to make a good impression on your new housemates.
Not in this particular story though…When Winnie was starting to get ready to move to
UCLA’s student accommodation, she got an email from one of her future housemates, Ashly. When no one responded to Ashly, Ashly wasn’t impressed, and wasn’t afraid to let her new roomies know about it.
She wrote another email and said,
"I’m not sure why neither of you responded back to my emails, but I don’t really care, just as long as you both know this and understand that I’m not gonna settle for anything less than what I’m gonna tell you that I’m gonna get once I arrive in the dorm.”
She then demands a certain bed, wardrobe and desk. BEFORE ANYONE HAS EVEN MOVED IN.
And This Girl…
