Well I love the area, it’s a very beautiful campus (and a large one at that), People seem to be very friendly. My only problem I have at the moment is that the classes currently aren’t engaging enough, I take Film Making, and it is my passion to go into that industry. I want to be excited to learn about my favourite subject, but I’m not challenged or interested at my current level of learning. They encourage students to discuss ideas through out the classes I’ve attended, however it never seems that anyone is confident enough to speak. I feel there should be work shops to solve these issues. There could be workshops to help students work on their confidence and become better equipped to handle lessons that require discussion and communication.

Currently not engaging and are a bit dull. Working with equipment in practical lessons have been a personal highlight

As one of this students who has access disability support services, the support that is provided is incredible, I cannot fault it. The campus is extremely accessible and inclusive. I receive study skills meetings twice weekly where I get one-to-one support with assignments, exams and anything I need help with. My lecturers and tutors are also incredibly understanding and easy to talk to, so whenever I have any personal issues or concerns I never feel alone. The physical study spaces are also very neurodivergent friendly, with lots of private spaces that can be booked out and even just accessible in general, especially in the library. I also find that I can always get help and advice with any questions or worries, I’m never alone. The campus is also very broad and free, I don’t feel anxious or overwhelmed, as someone with social anxiety who has always struggled in education, that is really important to me. The university as a whole is incredibly understanding and empathetic to everyone’s individual circumstances and I love that. My lecturers are also amazing, always available for help and questions and they are always checking in with us, we never feel alone with our assignments. I also love that they actually ask us what we like and don’t like, take these opinions of ours onboard, and actually change the things we don’t like. On our course we feel actively involved and it makes us feel like we have some sort of voice and say in what goes on in our own education. The only thing I would say could be improved is access to food that is more dietary requirements friendly. There isn’t much gluten free food available on campus even though there is lots of stools, food cans etc and as someone who is coeliac, this is a little disheartening.

I absolutely love my course, when I was considering university, speaking to James Williams before joining was actually the reason I decided to come. The course is incredible varied and I feel I’ve taken so much from it already ( and I’m only half way through my degree!) the content is really engaging and we are always involved in what is being taught, what we want to learn about and how it is taught. The lecturers are just as passionate as we are on the subject, which makes it even more exciting and really provides us with motivation to learn. The topics are all current and very relevant to any work with children and young people, but are also adaptable to own our individual interests, so we can really make the most of the course and mould it to our own future career prospects. For example, our most recent digital childhoods assignment - we are able to choose our own topics and concepts to write about. The lecturers and tutors are also really approachable and easy to chat to, as well as being really open to encouraging us to give our thoughts and opinions, because they really want to hear what we think, like or don’t like and what we want to change. This is really refreshing, as for me personally, I’ve never really experienced this in any previous education. The topics we cover are also really engaging and I find myself getting really enthusiastic and excited to learn (also something I’ve never really experienced before) and the concepts are really challenging which makes you critically reflect on your own initial opinions. The only thing I would say could be better is the hours, some are a bit all over the place on our timetable and some of us on the course do struggle with that. Although I understand this is something that can be unavoidable. Another thing is assignments, like for example discovering role models next semester, there is a summative group presentation assignment which I am particularly concerned about (worth 70% of the overall grade), this worries me as it is a big fraction of the grade and I just don’t feel it’s fair when it comes to group work. Some people in the group may be performing and trying at a certain level, while others aren’t bothered and I just feel that’s unfair for those who really try and want to get good grades. I really enjoy group work, I just feel when it is actually marked as a whole group, it can be unfair if some people do all the work and others don’t do any. Especially as with my ADHD I tend to just intensively work very independently, so my best performance of work is always on my own as I really struggle to produce high standards of work when working in a group.

Halls were very expensive for what they were. I think this could be reconsidered given the amount of maintenance most people receive. I was on maximum maintenance with no help from anyone else (ie family) and I really struggled.
