Writtle’s history dates back 130 years with a long-standing reputation in Agriculture and Horticulture. Today it is one of leading providers in a range of Equine, Veterinary Physiotherapy, Animal Science and Management, Canine, and Sports Science courses.
Writtle University College sits on a stunning 150-hectare estate and prides itself as being a small and specialist institution, where students are at the heart of everything the university does. In 2022, Writtle were ranked as the top University-Sector Institution in East Anglia for overall student satisfaction with teaching (NSS 2022 Taught Data), and in the top 12 nationally.
Writtle courses are created with employability in mind, meaning students can gain a qualification that is relevant to their industry’s needs by getting hands-on experience through practical learning. This allows Writtle students to apply specialist theory to real-life situations upon graduating.
Courses cover a range of specialist areas at both undergraduate and postgraduate level including conservation, equine science, animal science, animal management, veterinary physiotherapy, sports science, health and wellbeing, agriculture and horticulture, canine therapy, garden design and landscape architecture.

ASK A QUESTIONWrittle University College has around 400 rooms available in 14 Halls of Residence on the Main Campus. These are prioritised for first year students, who will be able to enjoy living in the picturesque gardens.
Halls are close to all amenities such as the HE Hub, bar and recreation centre, sports facilities, The Garden Room restaurant, library, computer suite and laundry room.
Prices start from £4,814 (2022/2023) per year which includes a meal allowance for use in the on-campus restaurant. There is a variety of rooms on offer, ranging from a basic room with shared facilities to double ensuite rooms.

The Student Success Team support all learners to ensure that they succeed and focus on their future goals. This includes career and employability support as well as offering a number of initiatives to allow students to get the best start, through individual and group mentoring.
The Writtle Inclusive and Wellbeing Team offer a range of services, from financial hardship assistance through to wellbeing support and counselling. VISIT WEBSITEIn recent years Writtle has invested £2 million into its equine campus, strengthening its reputation as one of the leading providers of equine education in the UK. It boasts award-winning alumni who become leaders in their industry following their graduation.
Their Horticulture and Floristry departments have enjoyed success at events such as Hampton Court Palace Flower Show and Chelsea Garden Show.
Writtle’s history is built on agriculture and courses related to the land and environment, but it also has a growing reputation and portfolio of courses in sport, veterinary physiotherapy, canine therapy, animal science and management courses.
Their veterinary physiotherapy course is the first Integrated Masters (MVetPhys) in the UK to be accredited by the Register of Animal Musculoskeletal Practitioners (RAMP).
Dedicated pathways are available in animal management, as well as science in zoo and wildlife conservation, and livestock and pet behaviour. The institution is the first to be recognised by the Animal Behaviour and Training Council (ABTC).
In 2021 the university college launched a pioneering course in regenerative agriculture, the first of its kind in the UK.
Writtle's position in the sport and health sciences sector has strengthened through the collaboration with health practitioners and organisations including the NHS. Working closely with industry, Writtle has developed innovative degree programmes in physical literacy, health and exercise referral, and health and exercise psychology.
There are 12 Writtle University College Students' Union committee members, comprising of executive officers and supporting officers. These members are student-elected every March.
The students' union exists to help students make the most of their time at Writtle. The union is run by a group of volunteers and part-time staff, who get involved with everything around college and above all else looking after students interests.
The Writtle SU also provides a wide range of entertainment throughout the academic year. Run by the union’s social officers, events are as varied as possible to suit all tastes. They hold themed nights and events through the year, as well as formal balls and celebrations.

Writtle is situated on a stunning large estate with landscaped gardens and beautiful scenery. Despite this idyllic Essex countryside setting, it’s just two miles from the city of Chelmsford, which is alive with student life and boasts restaurants, clubs, bars, shopping and leisure facilities.
Students are able to cycle into Chelmsford through public parks or get a bus from Writtle.
It is also 35 minutes from Central London by train and 35 minutes from the coastal areas of Essex.

This includes employer roundtable sessions, bi-annual careers fairs, which welcome employers from across the country to network with students and graduates as well as workshops aimed at budding entrepreneurs.

With a degree in a subject you love, you'll find more doors opening to jobs you'll love. Studies have also shown that graduates earn more on average compared to non-graduates.
If you want to continue to pursue education, you'll be able to progress to postgraduate study once you've got your undergraduate degree. You could opt to study a master's, or even get a PhD.
Living in uni halls means you'll have access to communal areas including kitchen and dining facilities. These facilities offer you plenty of opportunity to socialise with the students you're living with.
