Creative writing student Sam Morrell is learning the skills of the publishing industry part-time, while completing his degree.
The University of Sunderland runs its own student-led publishing company which operates as a commercial venture under the name Spectral Visions Press. Students get to work on a fully functioning publishing outfit that has its own editorial board.
Sam said: “It is fantastic experience. I am working on the PR and marketing side of the business which is the exciting part of promoting a new piece of work.
“We have a whole range of students, nearly 100 in all, working on the project including artists for the illustrations as well as a range of writers, bloggers, typesetters and copywriters. These come from a range of courses including creative writing like myself but also students studying business, drama, journalism and media.
“This invaluable experience has cemented in my mind that I want to go into the publishing industry and hopefully with this on my CV I will fulfill my dream."
