We make it our business to ensure the right support services are in place to enable you get the most out of your studying. We have great library services which include thousands of books, eBooks, journals and search tools such as Quest. Library resources are available online 24/7 from a location of your choice. They include 14,000 eBooks that allow you to search within text and make online notes and create favourites. Quest is an easy-to-use yet powerful discovery service that searches the university’s journal collections, bibliographic databases and library catalogue from one search box. Searching across forty plus databases, it is a sophisticated yet easy way to find the material you require.

We make sure that you have the right academic skills to prosper. There is lots of online advice or you can contact one of our team of advisers for personal help. They can offer advice with:

  • academic writing from first-year to postgraduate level
  • essay structure and organisation
  • critical thinking, reading and writing
  • referencing and avoiding plagiarism
  • writing a literature review
  • dissertation writing
  • exam revision and preparation
  • presentation structure and delivery
  • We can also help with digital skills to help you make the best use of your time: introducing the university network, Blackboard (a powerful online learning tool) and email accounts; Microsoft Office applications; using interactive whiteboards
  • We also want you to make the most of the library so we also offer the following information skills: introducing library services; using the library catalogue; identifying different kinds of information; planning a search strategy; learning about search tips; searching e-Books; searching e-Journals; critically evaluating journal articles for your assignment; critically analysing websites for quality and how to reference.
