Great potential... absolute let down. At Nottingham Trent you are no more than a number, an insignificant unit to make profit from - whether its via the terrible rip-off halls (of which there aren't even enough for %60 1st years), the uni shops, the courses (over subscribed). Apart from that I have never met so many passive, default, boring, mindless individuals in all my life. I am an outgoing, fun-time person who likes all drinking and partying, music, life, adventure and I found this place socially numbing. If you have anything approaching an open mind or sense of adventure... avoid this place at all costs. Go to a 'campus' uni... do your research... you will have a much better time. If you like 'a bit of whats in the charts', enjoy hanging in chain-bars, and your hobbies include watching 'The Bill', and shopping in dull shopping centres, and splashing cash on puke-inducing alkopops at cheesey nights with people who think they're too cool to talk to you coz they got their hair cut at Toni&Guy, then you should go to NTU! Ok, maybe its all changed now, but thats what I experienced in 2001/2002... the worst year of my entire life! I struggled through (stupidly!), now I have a degree and a good job an living the party life with cool people I had expected to meet at uni but never did. Many others felt the same, dropped out or lived through it. If you're in this situation, drop out and go travelling... you're only young once, dont hold out.
Course and Lecturers
Relatively good, compared to other uni's but let-down by being over-subscribed and in uninspirational surroundings. Also, being treated like a primary school child in your first year when you should be having it large is not great.
Accommodation
NTU is awful... Deserve to be named and shamed as not giving one iota about 1st years welfare... they cannot give all 1st years halls so I ended up in a horrid house, in a horrible part of the city with people who were not up for anything interesting. I never thought my first year would be the most lonely, depressing existence for a highly sociable and up-for-it person like me. My 'friends' in halls had horrific experiences like being the only English person in an entire block... so they clearly dont consider mixing up anyone so you can easily be completely isolated. At best you can expect to get a 'pod' bathroom and study room not fit for a sub-marine in a soul-less building with soul-less people who are either anti-social or school bullies. Hideous.
City Life
Some nice places have cropped up since I left... good gig and club scene, but good luck finding people who are interested in going further than 'Yates', Oceana and other mind-numbing places. Cool city if you look hard. Shame its filthy streets and run-down areas let it down.
Uni Facilities
Good facilities. Shame about the rest of it.
Clubs and Societies
Plenty on offer, but again, underfunded and no feeling of passion, undersubscribed, under funded... people would rather watch tv.
Student Union
No gigs, only cheezy nights, full of posers and losers... a horrid building reminicent of an innercity youth club circa 1988.
Eye Candy
As with most of society, %70 of girls under 30 are pretty hot. Shame they mostly had the personality of Jade Goody (literally!).
Job Prospects
You make your job prospects. Not your course or your UNI. If you're the kind of person who is motivated and organised enough to look, you will find... exactly the same opportunities you would have made anywhere else. Job prospects in Nottingham are limited, most people leave shorlty after.
Having said what you have said would you recommend your uni?
No
