These study days are available to staff working in acute/ critical care settings where patients regularly require 12-lead ECGs and/or cardiac pacing. The day will include an overview of cardiac electrophysiology, a revision of cardiac arrhythmias, an introduction to 12-lead ECG interpretation, recognition of myocardial ischaemia and infarction, principles and methods of cardiac pacing and trouble shooting common pacing problems. Each session follows current recommended guidelines.

Entry requirements

Practitioners must have attended the Basic ECG study day and have recently reviewed cardiac anatomy and physiology. It is desirable that candidates for these study days are either regularly recording and viewing ECGs or that they are going to take up a post where frequent ECG recording and interpretation is undertaken.
