Foundation degrees are a work-related higher education qualification. A full-time Textiles foundation degree course generally takes two years to complete while a part time Textiles foundation degree takes three to four years.
Foundation degree Subject Intro: Textiles
Most fashion degrees require three or four years preceded by a foundation course and ideally you'll be creative, innovative and have an eye for detail. You'll be taught pattern cutting, illustration, promotion sourcing and sampling, construction, textiles and industry awareness as well as the technical skills needed to work with different materials.
A few graduates go on to be designers, but competition is fierce. Others find employment in fashion design companies or in industries connected to the fashion world, such as stylists or consultants.
